Universal Vortical Singularity contemplation on ancient concepts of cyclical universe
Comtemplation on the "Pre Heaven" BaguaThis "Pre Heaven" Bagua diagram with a Ying-Yang symbol encircled in eight trigrams is truly amazing. From the perspective of UVS model, the Bagua is a conceptual model of universe in an ancient Chinese civilization that study the precession cycles of celestial objects for predicting natural events that recurs on Earth in cyclical manners. Bagua are eight diagrams used in Taoist cosmology to represent a range of interrelated concepts, its origin from China is dated as far back as mid 2800s BC. The term Bagua, is pronounced as bā guà, the Chinese word bā means eight and guà means trigram; bā guà literally refers to the eight triagrams. The Chinese word Tào in Taoism refers to the course, path or way of nature. Each triagrm is denoted by three ying-yang lines and there are two types of such line. The solid line represents yang, the creative principle, and the open line represents yin, the receptive principle. The Bagua diagram is conceptually a template or a ruler within the Taoist cosmology to track changes based on I Ching, as the cosmology centres on the ideas of the dynamic balance of opposites, the evolution of events as a process, and acceptance of the inevitability of change. In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang are generalized descriptions of the antitheses or mutual correlations in human perceptions of phenomena in the natural world, combining to create a unity of opposites in the theory of the Taiji. |

This is apparently a universal universe model of perpetual changing in cyclical manner developed by ancient Chinese that was at least almost five thousand years ago.
With the "Pre Heaven" Bagua model they seems to be more knowledgeable in some areas of natural event than what modern scientists are still learning and ignorance about. However, over time this universe model was marred by myths and has had strayed in developments of all sorts. There are many other aspects that implicates modified Bagua concept as in ontology, mythology, astrology, geography, geomancy, anatomy, the family, martial arts, fortune-telling and elsewhere. Nonetheless, in the UVS worldview, "Pre Heaven" Bagua was primarily investigated for its inference in cosmology, astronomy, natural phenomena and its capabilities for predicting natural events. See a UVS topic on "The genesis".

The M81 galaxy also displayed a unity in duality of Ying and Yang symbol as a dual-core vortex, this characteristic could also be observed in the image for oceanic whirlpool but to a lesser apparent degree with the harmonics of this dual-core vortex formed at varying angular phase around its dual-core.

The first wave animation on right simulates the circle wave on the water surface, the second wave animation shows the interference pattern between two circle waves on the water surface. There is a "S" pattern between the two sources of the circle waves and the interference pattern in antiphase forms a total of sixteen spokes around their centroid. This two-dimensional active interference pattern that could be formed naturally with antiphase offsetting of two circle waves resembles the wonderful Bagua diagram in many aspects. |

Precession cycles in I-Ching analysis - Natural event predictions
The five elements (Wu
Xing) in Bagua for Chinese
astrology refers to the five
naked-eye planets,
these planets are Venus (gold), Jupiter (wood),
Mercury (water), Mars (fire),
and Saturn (earth), and the Chinese Wu Xing are named
with the five elements of nature in the denotation as gold, wood, water, fire
and earth respectively. The Chinese word Wǔ means five, and Xíng
means motion or movement, the term Wu Xing of Bagua in Taoist cosmology refers
to the paths with precession cycles of these five naked-eye planets that have
different characteristics.
Apparently, the Chinese Zodiac is a twelve year cycle and the Chinese calendar is associated to the phases of Jupiter's orbit. There are twelve sacred beasts in the Chinese astrological cycle that corresponds to the a twelve year cycle for the orbit of Jupiter, and every year in the twelve year cycle in Chinese astrology is represented by a symbol of the twelve Chinese Zodiac animal. In the start of a sixty-year sexagenary cycle, the layout of Solar System objects with Sun, Earth and a new moon are aligned as a superior conjunction on day one of Chinese lunisolar calender, Jupiter and Saturn would return to their approximate celestial positions in a specific formation in the Chinese constellations. Thereafter, every year of this sixty-year sexagenary cycle is denoted with their respective Celestial Stem and Earthly Branch. In modern astronomy, Saturn and Jupiter is know to have a coincidental 'near' ratios of mean motion in an orbital resonance, the ratio is almost 2:5. Every two revolving cycle of Saturn around Sun in a period of almost sixty years (59.3 years), Jupiter would have made almost five revolving cycle around Sun with a slight angular mismatch, this angular mismatch renders a shift of their celestial positions observed from Earth in a fixed Saturn-Jupiter configuration in the celestial sky of Earth with a precession cycle of almost sixty years involving Saturn, Jupiter, Sun and Moon. Evidently these are the foundations of Bagua for analyzing different precession cycles of the Solar System objects as it could be observed from Earth.
See UVS topics on "Solar System alignment effect", "Sunspot" and "Tidal bore" that elaborate on how some significant natural events could be qualitatively predicted.
The trigrams diagram can be used to denote the phases of two precession cycle, with eight phases indicated for one cycle it would derive as sixty-four scenarios for a dual-precession cycle in the eight eights (8 x 8 ) of trigram, hence sixty-four hexagrams in I-Ching. After having recorded the phenomena for localized climate conditions for every phase on a daily basis over a specific period of time for statistical compilation as an almanac, which could be used as a reference for the predictions of major natural event that would recur in a cyclical manner. The cross-referencing of the almanac could be done by tracking the cosmos in night sky for relating the observation to the sixty-four hexagrams for I-Ching analysis.
The animation below for tide as illustrated has eight moon phases, and with the seasonal variation in a calendar year also segregated into eight phases, as in spring, mid spring, summer, mid summer, autumn, mid autumn, winter and mid winter. The 64 cyclical scenarios with the positions of Sun and Moon viewed from Earth in a lunisolar precession, could be identified and denoted with the sixty-four hexagrams for I-Ching analysis that is based on a Bagua model with dual-precession cycle.
Based on the sixty-year sexagenary cycle that recurs in a cyclical manner, by cross referencing to its sixty-four hexagrams with recorded past events for ocean tides, it therefore can predict ocean tide. This principle of Bagua is similar to astronomical precession cycles, and it should be possible to apply I-Ching for predicting climatic events such as wind direction or weather according to the records of past localized event. Note: The day one for Chinese lunisolar calendar of the month is always on the phase of a new moon, and mid months is always on the phase of a full moon.

In the Battle of Red Cliffs, despite a situation of being greatly outnumbered by the army of warlord Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang might have used the Bagua knowledge and thus instrumented the defeat of a vastly overwhelming invading enemy. It was mentioned that Zhuge Liang had observed the night sky to track the positions of grouped stars as in Chinese constellations and he was known to be proficient in astronomy; he could be doing that to make Bagua prediction based on I-Ching analysis. He anticipated a critical change in wind direction to come from the southeast that was unusual in that season, therefore battleplans were made and military strategies were executed well in advance to prepare for that day when wind direction was least expected by anyone to be changed at all. On the day when wind direction did changed as anticipated, in a sneak attack by setting a blaze that was fanned by the changed wind direction, the large fleet of enemy warships moored from stem to stem were entirely wiped out.
Ironically, the modern day weather forecast has often been not accurate even for predictions within a few days, but the ancient Chinese were able to make climate predictions fairly accurately in months ahead in a general manner that was based on sexagenary cycle with a dual-precession cycle of approximately sixty years.
"Our Earth is not at rest. The Earth moves around the Sun. The Sun orbits the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. The Milky Way Galaxy orbits in the Local Group of Galaxies. The Local Group falls toward the Virgo Cluster of Galaxies. But these speeds are less than the speed that all of these objects together move relative to the cosmic microwave background (CMBR). In the all-sky map on right, radiation in the Earth's direction of motion appears blueshifted and hence hotter, while radiation on the opposite side of the sky is redshifted and colder. The map indicates that the Local Group moves at about 600 kilometers per second relative to this primordial radiation. This high speed was initially unexpected and its magnitude is still unexplained. Why are we moving so fast? What is out there?" - Excerpt from Astronomy Picture of the Day on COBE temperature map of the CMBR dipole, NASA. From the perspective of Universal Vortical Singularity, the dipole anisotropy pattern of cosmic microwave background radiation (CMBR) in false color temperature map as measured by the COBE mission, is a scientific evidence that the observable physical universe is precessing in a vortical motion with self-perpetual motion. It resembles the Ying and Yang symbol of the Taijitu diagram, its concept suggest the universe is in a state of constant cyclical motions of Tao in a complimentary pair that in its wake it manifests the characteristics for duality of nature for all existences. See a UVS topic on "The dipole anisotropy pattern of CMBR". |

In ancient Greece, Anaximander postulated the concept of vortex in his Apeiron cosmology based on flat Earth geocentric model and stated that universe is filled with an indestructible common stuff he called it apeiron (aether), the vortex aspect was said to be inspired by his master Thales. Thales was regarded as the first philosopher in the Greek tradition, he was known for his innovative use of geometry and seems to have predicted a solar eclipse, also said to have wrote "On the Solstice" and "On the Equinox". Anaximander is considered to be the master of Pythagoras, Pythagorean heliocentrism was later championed by Aristarchus who was said to had establised that Earth revolves around the Sun. The astronomical ideas for heliocentrism at then were rejected in favor of the geocentric theories of Aristotle and Ptolemy until they were successfully revived nearly 1800 years later by Copernicus and extensively developed and built upon by Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton. See an external link on "Heliocentrism".
Unfortunately, much of Anaximander work was lost and therefore the literature of his Apeiron cosmology was not very clear. Among the early ancient Greek philosophers, Anaxagoras was said to have further advanced Anaximander's idea, he was an astronomer and a man of science, in his philosophy of nature he developed a vortex theory after observing vortices and spiral phenomena in nature and believed the world was created through the rotary motion of a spiral, and he could explain the centrifugal force on mechanical principles. In the era of modern science, Rene Descartes established an aether filled heliocentric universe with his Cartesian cosmology based on a vortex model, this theory although was popular in the seventeen century, was later rejected by scientific consensus in the era of classical physics. See an external link on "From cosmic whirl to vortices".
The concept of a spherical Earth dates back to around the 6th century BC in ancient Greek philosophy. Pythagoras reasoned that Earth and the other planets must be spheres, since the most harmonious geometric solid form is a sphere, he also mentioned that "the Sun orbited the central fire along with everything else" and this seems to be a concept of spiral galaxy. These amazing ancient Greeks with the philosophy of an infinite oneness universe (singularity) had clearly established the concept of an aether-filled universe that was based on vortex mechanism, and also the concept of heliocentric cosmology with a spherical Earth among other spherical planets are revolving around the Sun, and the Sun orbits the central fire along with everything else, had meticulously explained these concepts with geometry and mechanical principles. After the fifth century BC, no Greek writer of repute thought the world was anything but round. In Anaximander philosophy, he had also mentioned that human was evolved from other animal species living in water, this was mentioned more than two thousand years before Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.

~ With thanks to Professor Patrick Wirtz (aka ProfPat) for his forum posting on the suggestion of ancient symbols that are succinct and tend to inspire, such as Plato’s perfect circle, Zen’s incomplete circle, the Star of David, Pythagoras’s Odd/Even numbers and others.
~ With thanks to Ivar Nielsen for highlighting Anaxagoras' vortex theory through a private message.
~ With utmost thanks to Dr. Vladimir Ginzburg for the collective work in his book "Prime Elements of Ordinary Matter, Dark Matter & Dark Energy" that elaborates on numerous ancient philosophers and scientists of modern eras whom had studied the spirals of nature.
Author's note: When I was awakened to the idea of a vortical universe in May 2007 and subsequently has developed the model of Universal Vortical Singularity (UVS model), I did not know at all that any of such vortex theory had ever existed. This was until Jim Mash (Author of "Fluid Energy theory") had first brought the Cartesian vortex cosmology by Rene Descartes to my attention in June 2008, and later was aware of Walter Russell Cosmogony after Dean Ward and Allen Barrow brought Walter Russell to my attention in Oct 2008. A modern era publication that had categorically summarized the numerous studies and researches for spirals of nature in all eras, was presented in "From cosmic whirl to vortices" by Vladimir B. Ginzburg who had wrote a vortex theory called "Three-Dimensional Spiral String Theory", had came to my attention in June 2009 only after the vortical universe concept for UVS was quite developed with 138 qualitative predictions. Even then, UVS still has its uniqueness among these other vortex theories. June 2009.
